GenBioM

A research project combining morphological analysis, molecular markers and biochemical profiling to document, identify and characterize wild edible fungi in Croatian habitats.

About the Project

GenBioM (Project title: Integrated morphological, genetic and biochemical identification and characterization of wild edible mushrooms in Croatia) investigates the diversity, taxonomy and biochemical properties of wild edible mushrooms across Croatian habitats. The project combines field sampling, morphological taxonomy, DNA barcoding and biochemical analysis to generate reliable scientific data and support sustainable use of native fungal resources. The research strengthens biodiversity documentation, food-safety evaluation and ecological understanding.

Research Focus

  • Field sampling and morphological characterization of wild fungi.
  • Molecular identification using barcoding and sequencing.
  • Biochemical and nutritional profiling of mushroom species.
  • Analysis of environmental factors influencing fungal diversity.
  • Assessment of heavy metals and food-safety parameters.
